Southern Appalachian Science & Engineering Fair

The Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair (SASEF) is the premier science and engineering competition for students in middle and high school in our 23-county service area of East Tennessee. Students compete in a science-fair based competition to showcase their scientific research in poster and oral format to a panel of UTK faculty and Knoxville-based scientist judges for a chance to win scholarships and awards.

Tennessee Science Olympiad

The Tennessee Science Olympiad is devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. Competitions are made up of multiple events in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers and technology that follow the format of popular board games, TV shows, and athletic games. Events in the Science Olympiad have been designed to recognize the wide variety of skills that students possess. While some events require knowledge of scientific facts and concepts, others rely on science processes, skills, or applications.

Virtual Science Club

The Virtual Science Club is designed to provide free virtual programming to assist students and teachers in the development of scientific skills and to motivate them to enter the Southern Appalachian Science & Engineering Fair (SASEF)! The club is a joint venture between SASEF and The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Pre-College Research Excellence Programs.
